Learning :: eBay chair

I took this eBay listing as an opportunity to use my camera and lighting equipment. Here if you’re interested in buying.

Nothing fancy…just blasted a SB-900 speedlight into a wall at one end of a corridor and put the chair at the other end. I just wanted to create some consistent soft light by shutting out the ambient.

I think my settings were f8 at 1/200 of a second shutter speed and ISO200 with speedlight at full power. Camera settings were used to kill any ambient with shutter speed used at as fast as what I feel comfortable using some cheap Chines made radio triggers so I didn’t catch the shutter half way across (and even then I did with one frame – weird). I think the sync speed for my D700 is 1/250 (from memory) so 1/200 I felt was decently safe. I wouldn’t mind a set of new pocket wizards, but money money money.

Post processing was simple. Just did some white balance adjustments (for some reason the Adobe Camera Raw default pumped way too much red into the picture and the walls were turning my speedlight yellow – at least I hope it was the walls and not my speedlight being faulty). Adjusted the tones a bit to boost up the contrast. Did some straightening/cropping to fix up some lazy camera composing. Done.

For sale :: my beloved WRX

Photos

So my WRX is finally for sale.  I have had this car for the past 8 years which means it has been a part of my life for a very long time.

I used this sale as an opportunity to get some last photos of her.

Some details about the car:

This car was fitted with the MRT XB Power kit in 2006 by MRT in Rhodes (adds 40KW and 30% torque).

This kit is essential 3″ piping from the turbo to the exhaust (including up-pipe), heavy duty fuel pump, ECU remap, etc. Full details can be found on the MRT website

As parts have worn out, I have replaced them with higher quality after-market items, plus some other extras:

  • DBA slotted and drilled rotors,
  • MRT sports brake pads,
  • GFB pulley kit,
  • GFB short-shift kit,
  • Alpine head unit,
  • Pirelli P-Zero Nero tyres,
  • Satellite anti-theft tracking,
  • Tinted windows.

From the time capsule

I remember putting this clip from my old Sony compact (zomg it has video recording with sound!) on YouTube way back when YouTube was not a giant commercial television station.  Ironically, it’s got way more views than the videos I’ve created with Final Cut Pro hehe.

Sold – 29 December 2012

8 years I’ve had this car.  Since 24 December 2004 it has served me well (except for that stupid Brant alarm).  Sad day today.

Event :: Tall Ships

Recently I photographed a work event – sailing around Sydney Harbour with the folks at Sydney Harbour Tall Ships.

Sail raising, mast climbing, BBQing and general chillaxing ensued.
